Crochet Pattern For Decorative Wall Hanging

The Stitches and Knots

How to tie a slip knot

A slip knot is the knot that attaches the yarn to the crochet hook. To tie a slip knot, first loop your yarn. Tuck the tail in and pull the newly formed gap out. Tighten around the hook.

How to single crochet

The single crochet is one of the basic crochet stitches. Insert your crochet hook into the desired stitch. Yarn over, pull your hook into then next loop on the hook. Do the same but into two stitches. Repeat from step 3 until only one loop remains. Double crochet is the same but before inserting your hook into the stitch, you yarn over.

How to blanket stitch

This stitch is an easy way to make a blanket. You first chain the desired length. Chain three extra stitches. Double crochet twice into the stitch closest to the hook. Then skip two stitches. Single crochet once and double crochet twice into the third stitch from the hook. Repeat until you are three stitches away from the end. At that point, single crochet into the last stitch. Repeat from the second step for the desired amount of rows (in this case, two).

Terminology and Notes

Yarn over -- Wrap yarn around the crochet hook.

In this project, I used double double yarn.

The Pattern

Do a blanket stitch (two turns). Then, chain the same number of stitches you put in for the blanket stitch. Next, double crochet into the other end of the blanket stitch. Tie off. Finally, tie a slip knot at the middle of the chain, but loosen it instead of tightening it.
